“Well, last night was our chamber brass concert, and our ‘bone quartet surprised everyone by opening their portion with a freely-improvised piece, something I’d never seen them do before…it was fabulous, the highlight of the whole concert for me. Afterwards, Reggie explained to the audience how they’d just returned from London where they’d met/worked with Oren, and he had encouraged them to explore such activities to improve their ensemble playing! After seeing this, I have resolved to do the same thing with my trumpet ensembles! So, you can see how our visit has already shaped what’s happening
in brass at VCU.” - Rex Richardson, Yamaha Performing Artist, Rhythm&Brass Asst. Prof. of Trumpet and Jazz Trumpet, Virginia Commonwealth University

“Oren Marshall has been a member of the jazz faculty at the Academy for over a decade.
In that time,he has grown and diversified his skills in several directions. His love of rhythmic approach in music is clearly what makes Oren such an engaging teacher. He nurtures and inspires our students and often takes them out of their comfort zone without anyone noticing,as he is clear and incredibly positive within the class environment. He has often employed the services of his students for his various projects beyond the Academy, which is a tremendous incentive for the students to apply themselves,as he really appreciates their desire to explore new areas of the artform.

Life without Oren would be very dull.”
