“The incredible sub-sonic tuba maestro Oren leads this quirky project that seamlessly mixes West African textures with full-on jazz improv.” - Timeout

“’Wit and dexterity’ were promised from Oren Marshall and both were provided in spades in an infectiously exuberant performance from his Charming Transport Band…
Beginning with a solo tuba improvisation incorporating all possible (and some apparently impossible) noises, the band rattled through an irresistibly sparky set of rumbustiously rhythmic Marshall tunes, underpinned by the leader’s solid repeated brass basslines and embellished not only by Facey’s tart, agile alto but also by sudden eruptions of hand percussion and the odd contribution from Sackey and Asumadu’s Ghanaian bamboo flutes. Exciting, intense, climactic music, at once immediately accessible and highly original, cheered to the echo by a large crowd - a perfect Vortex evening.” - Chris Parker, Vortex Reviews

“By bringing together super-talented young jazz musicians from London and top Ghanaian drummers, Oren Marshall has synthesised his vast experience as a tuba player (from the London Philharmonic Orchestra to the Pan-African Orchestra, from Derek Bailey to Branford Marsalis) in order to create a unique vehicle for sharing his new music.” - European TryTone Festival Previews

“Oren started the show with a solo of such ingenuity that the audience laughed for joy…He plays his instument with the agility of a piccolo player.” Evening Standard

“Some of my favourite moments where when the two guitarists played off each other in a solid groove, just building the tension in the dance until you couldn’t help but move. Sax man Siegel was on form too when he really took over and let fly to make some hypnotic segments and when he and Lekan Sobiyi on guitar played off each other it was pretty special. The Gome drum was pretty damn special too, I couldn’t believe some of the beats coming out of that. The whole band was tight as hell and ready to roll. Oren kept it all in check and everyone did their thing.” Review of The Shed Showcase
